People the world over are fascinated by the power of Nature. And I count myself as fascinée aussi.
The pounding surf lures me out in the rain to take photographs during Northern California’s most violent and destructive storm of the season (you may notice reflections of spray on these images).
Like big patches of soap suds, foam from the crashing waves blows wildly over railings and sidewalk onto the neighboring roadside.
The raging Pacific holds a magnetic attraction, bringing whole families out for the show. Children’s high-pitched squeals of excitement and persistent attempts to get closer and closer to the cliff’s edge put their mothers on heightened alert. Perhaps the little ones intuit what Jules Verne wrote about in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea:
“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides.”

Beautiful images! I, too, am stirred by the wildness of the churned-up sea, as its shifting states symbolize the interior spheres of emotional life and oscillating moods. Water is universally archetypal, and dreams containing a water motif are well worth investigating closely.
