Pink Breath Of Heaven

Pink Breath of Heaven ~ also called Coleonema Pulchrum and Diosma ~ blooms Winter through Spring and intermittently during the year. Its foliage sends out a fragrant perfume when brushed or rubbed, which is one reason the evergreen shrub is often planted along walkways.

The South Africa native is valued for its drought-tolerance, deer-resistance, and fast growth. More poetically, it is appreciated for the kinetic element it adds to the garden landscape on windy days and for the beauty of its “common” name.

I planted some pink breath of heaven at the direction of a local nursery, along with other plants. They said 1st row, pink breath, 2nd row daylillies, 3rd row limonium perezii. I started to research these so I could keep instructions on how to maintain & care for them and discovered that pink breath grows to be about 5 feet tall??? It’s going to cover everything behind it…you won’t be able to see the others. Shouldn’t the lowest growing be in front of the flower bed (this is in the front yard) so that facing the house you can see those lower growing? I am just learning about gardening and that has left me confused.

HELP!! Will it hurt the plants if I replant them somewhere else? I only planted them this afternoon.

Contrary to what I have read, the pink breath of heaven does not grow very fast, at least not up here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. You might want to carefully transplant the pink breath of heaven to a place where expansion is welcome so that it won’t be crowded or use it as a hedge. Good luck and happy gardening.
