Driving south on Highway 93 along Flathead Lake, Montana, we saw ample huckleberry and cherry stands, but being the skeptic I am, I didn’t believe the cherries were local and not bought for resale from some large supermarket chain until we pulled up and saw the vendor: an elderly gentleman who talked about picking the sweet fruit as a youngster and explained how the soil of The Flathead – enriched by glacier activity ages ago – was the key factor in the sweetness of his Bing variety. Now that’s the real McCoy!
Eating is believing … these huge cherries turned out to be the most scrumptious, delectable, and luscious we’ve ever tasted, and, to prove it, we happily feasted on both pounds straightaway ~ Yum!
