I Arise In The Morning

I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day. ~ E.B. White, author of the children’s classics Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little.

Such a conundrum presents itself most commonly when surrounded by nature. I’ve never felt that way – well, maybe never is a strong word, but you get my meaning – when I’m in the hustle and bustle of a city.
Here in the Santa Cruz mountains I indulge in both desires, during my early morning walk.

I spend 60 minutes, between 6 and 7 am, walking with the dog…and together we pick up refuse littering the side of the roads. Improving, and enjoying. Splendid compromise, no?
