The Blue Marble

by Viktoria Vidali on December 7, 2009

in Great Things To Share

This spectacular “blue marble” image is the most detailed true-color image of the entire Earth to date.* Using a collection of satellite-based observations, scientists and visualizers stitched together months of observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a seamless, true-color mosaic of every square kilometer (.386 square mile) of our planet.

These images are freely available to educators, scientists, museums, and the public. Much of the information contained in this image came from a single remote-sensing device-NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS.

*JUST RELEASED:

On February 1, 2012, NASA released ”Blue Marble 2012,” a view of the home planet that the agency calls the “most amazing high definition image of Earth.” This composite image is made from data collected by the Suomi NPP satellite.

Larry-s Famous Chai

by Viktoria Vidali on October 3, 2009

in Great Things To Share

Larry McNeill, Chai Master, has been making his famous chai tea for ages … well, since 1985. When I met him yesterday at New Leaf on Pacific Avenue, he told me it didn’t take him long to come up with the recipe. Unlike other chai teas, his doesn’t contain pepper. It’s mild yet tangy and flavorful and is especially delicious with vanilla soy milk. Visit the White Raven in Felton, CA, for a taste. Be sure to view his chai brewing video before surprising your guests.

Update: Felton entrepreneurs buy out Larry’s Famous Chai (3/13/11).
